Debris Drifter v 1.1.06
Patch Notes!
v 1.1.06:
- Added a new 'turret' enemy that shoots at you! Been wanting to have these in the game for a while. Turns out they add more challenge than I was initially expecting - one on its own is okay, but two or three can quickly put you in very tricky situations, so they appear sparingly early on. I like that they require a different approach to regular enemies (charging directly at them is a bad idea), and also make you pay attention to a larger area of the playing field. Also it turns out they're particularly good at taking down your shields >:)
- Speaking of which: Shields now start at a slightly larger size, and decrease (down to a minimum radius) as you level up. This is in contrast to the previous version, where shields started small and got arbitrarily larger as you leveled up (to be clear: larger shields are bad because they're easier to lose). That was a nice idea in theory, but in practice it meant that your ship felt more clumsy as you leveled up, which conflicts with the core fantasy of being a hotshot cool space pilot.
Other changes:
- Added another spooky late-game enemy ;)
- Tweaked a little the sequence of powers and enemy distributions
- Enemies now drop 50 'bits' instead of 49 (picking up 50 bits from hitting an enemy up close is more satisfying than getting 49 and feeling like you missed one)
- Added "Press Q to skip tutorial / Press M to toggle mute' message at the start of the game
This may or may not be the last substantial update for the foreseeable future. I would like to add another power-up and I have a couple of rough ideas for what they might be, but who knows if they'll work out.
